Calling all Bloodsuckers in the U.K - ARE YOU READY FOR VAMPS??? We caught up with VAMPS before their long awaited first UK show on Monday, so read on to hear their views on London as well as their new album SEX BLOOD ROCK N' ROLL!!!

Q: London is known as the 'holy ground' for rock music. How do you feel about playing in this city?

HYDE: I’m wondering if people will really come…(laughs)

K.A.Z: We’ve always listened to UK and US rock music, and I think the UK is really the musical center, so I’m looking forward to it.

Q: What’s the main attraction of London?

H: Hmm…I wonder?

K: Again, it’s a city that’s at the centre of music and art. I’m very fond of the city and I find it very stimulating.

H: Visually, it’s a city that’s very closely linked to rock music. The images that symbolize London, for example the double decker buses, or the guards, or the Union Jack flag, they all represent rock and have featured on various album covers over the years. That’s very rare and it’s difficult to find in any other country. It feels like the country has a close link to rock music. I’m jealous. We couldn’t do that in Japan! In Japan it’s a bit strange if you’re too patriotic – in the UK they even have Union Jack cars!

Q: Can you tell us a story from any previous visits to London?

K: I was once staying with a friend near Hyde Park, and we started shooting fireworks out of the window (laughs) . I have no idea why, maybe we were a bit excited? It was my first time in London so I think I got a bit carried away…

H: I was staying in London often around the year 2000, and at that time they’d just started shooting the Harry Potter movies. So London was full of excitement about the movies, and there were lots of merchandise and toys everywhere. But at that time it hadn’t quite caught on in Japan yet, so it was great to buy toys in London and then give it to my friends in japan. I was very proud!

Q: About “TROUBLE”, why did you cover this song in particular?

H: It’s a very famous song in Japan. Japanese people aren’t usually able to sing English songs, but I thought that everyone would know Shampoo’s TROUBLE. That was the only reason why I picked it, but it’s now become a favourite in our lives. We’re really grateful for Shampoo now!

Q: How do you want your UK fans to prepare for the show?

K: It’ll be exciting to see people in different types of fashion.

Q: VAMPS’ music has clear influences from 80s UK rock, new romantic music and heavy rock such as Mötley Crüe, and glam rock such as T-Bolan. How did you feel when you were listening to these types of music at the time?

H: I was very fond of them. At the time, music clips had just started to become popular, but it was very difficult to actually watch them because back in those days there was no internet like now. So I’d stay up late, or go to a café, just to try and catch a glimpse of these music clips. I really wanted to watch them but it was such a struggle! But when I finally did see them, they were so cool. Like Duran Duran, or Culture Club – and it’d make me so proud to say to my friends the next morning – “I saw their music clips last night!”.

K: It was difficult to buy records at the time because we were still at school, so TV was the main source for listening to music. So if there was a channel that was showing a UK or US music special, I’d watch them endlessly.

Q: You have said in interviews that you want to pursue your musical activities overseas, just as you do in Japan. Have you ever considered moving your base to another country?

H: Yes. If everything was prepared I’m definitely motivated enough to go overseas…… but then I’d be sad to leave Japan. Where would I want to live…? Probably Hawaii (laughs)?? I guess if I considered work it’d have to be Los Angeles.

K: I actually thought about it a lot when I’d started playing in a band – to the extent that I was researching how to apply for visas! I was always amazed at how musically stimulating overseas countries were – like how you could be drinking in a bar, and then that would lead to a jam session in the garage straight after! That’s how bands start. It would never happen in Japan, so I always longed for musical situations like that.

Q: If you were going to shoot a full-length promotion video or a short movie, what would you do?

H: I’d never thought of anything like that – maybe for Halloween?

Q: If you had as much money as you wanted to create a massive scale live stage, what would you do?

H: If I say something the Rolling Stones will do it before us, so I don’t want to say!

K: I saw Madonna’s live recently and that was cool – a grade-up version of something like that, just VAMPS-style!

Q: You said that the tracks for SEX BLOOD ROCK N’ ROLL were chosen because they are the best played live. Please tell us about some of the tracks from the record.

DEVIL SIDE
H: DEVIL SIDE is filled with the most attractive elements of VAMPS. The lyrics are about lives too – There’s some rather sexual expressions, but it basically means that if you don’t show all of what you’ve got, you can’t feel the music. Releasing your soul, more like. If you’re embarrassed or shy, you can’t move to the music as you want. Which means that you can’t feel the music. So I want people to relax and show us their true colours.

REDRUM
H: It’s a really cool track.

K: It’s very aggressive and almost violent. It’s a naughty track.

REVOLUTION II
H: I thought it’d be an interesting song to re-mix. The addition of all the new sounds have made it even more glamorous. It’s great played live, so I wonder how the UK audience will respond to it.

THE PAST
K: I think there’s a real UK feel to this track. It’s not a violent track, it’s more euphoric and it’s as if the music flows through the body. It’s one of those songs that I really want people to listen to.

LOVE ADDICT
H: It’s our first single so it represents VAMPS. There’s a lot of audience reaction and it’s a live favourite.

ANGEL TRIP
K: It’s a party tune. It’s very expressive and the audience really feel that too.

MEMORIES
K: It’s like you’re looking through an old album full of memories. Even when we perform it, I can still feel the images of nostalgia in my head. It’s nice.

SEX BLOOD ROCK N’ ROLL
H: The lyrics are about the band. Live is our sex, blood is alcohol, and we’re always making noise – the title describes what a band does.

SEX BLOOD ROCK N’ ROLL (REMIX)
H: We were going to use it for our album, but because it was so drastically different we couldn’t use it – but we wanted to use it somehow so we made it digitally available.

K: It has a really decadent, almost desolate feel – it has an industrial feel and I really like it. It’s almost like Nine Inch Nails.

７月には待望のニューシングル「AHEAD / REPLAY」をリリース、以後精力的なライブツアーを展開してきたVAMPS。９月25日には世界デビュー盤となる『SEX BLOOD ROCK N' ROLL』をユニバーサルミュージック/デリシャス・デリ・レコーズよりリリース。もともと世界水準の音で勝負してきているVAMPSではあるが、『SEX BLOOD ROCK N' ROLL』では「MEMORIES」「ANGEL TRIP」などの日本詞曲も英詞で新録されたりと、様々なアップデートがされている。VAMPSの５年の歩みが結実したベスト盤としての意味合いも含んだ１枚となった。VAMPSは現在ヨーロッパツアーを展開しており、12月にはUS公演も決定している。さらに10月19日（土）、20日（日）には神戸ワールド記念ホール、25日（金）、26日（土）幕張メッセ国際展示場９～11ホールにて、豪華ゲストを迎えてのハロウィンライブイベント「HALLOWEEN PARTY 2013」の開催も決定と年内はライブ三昧のようだ。

毎月話題のライブ/コンサートにおける楽器をPlayerならではの切り口で紹介しているFROM THE BACKSTAGEのコーナーだが、10月2日発売Player11月号では２年振りにVAMPSのライブ機材をレポートしている。取材したのは９月上旬のZEPP TOKYO公演。彼ら曰く“篭城”型のライブスタイルで毎年のように全国Zeppツアーを展開してきている彼らだが、この日も綿密なリハーサルを行ないより高い完成度のステージングを目指す姿がそこにはあった。さらに驚いたのは、HYDEもK.A.Zの使用機材が２年前とはまったく様変わりしていた点である。HYDEは近年のムスタングからギブソン・メロディメーカーに持ち替えており、このメロディメーカーに関してもいろいろなエピソードがあるのでぜひ記事の方をご一読いただきたい。

そしてK.A.Zが今回メインギターとしてプレイしていたのがZODIACWORKS ZPG Re-viv K.A.Z Custom。K.A.Zのキャッチーなリフ、フレーズを紡いだ繊細なギタープレイとは裏腹にも思える激しいステージングと、時折テクニカルなプレイを織り交ぜる演奏には目が奪われるが、本器は“ダウンチューニングにおいても音程がブレず、また歪ませても音像が埋もれないギター”をテーマに、ゾディアックワークスとK.A.Zの共同開発により生み出されたギターである。P.U.レイアウト違いのホワイトのモデルもスタンバイしていたが、ともにメイプル・トップのコリーナ・ボディと27"ロングスケールのコリーナ・ネックをディープジョイントした独自設計のギターだった。カッパークラフトの加工がされたピックガード、裏通しで張弦するハードテイル仕様なのもポイントだ。他にも「AHEAD / REPLAY」のPVで使用された、JAMES TRUSSART CUSTOM GUITARSなど、バックアップ分も含めて撮影した楽器類を６ページに渡り展開しているのでチェック。また読者プレゼントとして、販促用ポスターを３名様分いただいたので、ぜひ記事の感想をちょびっと書いていただきつつこちらのページを参照の上、メールでご応募いただきたい。

Через три года после своего первого парижского концерта ВАМПС в составе двух участников, которые больше не нуждаются в представлении, Хайд и К.А.З. снова коснулись французской земли в рамках своего мирового тура, а так же для продвижения своего нового альбома лучших песен SEX BLOOD ROCK'N'ROLL, вышедшего осенью этого года. Накануне своего концерта в Олимпии, они встретились с Parasite Scene для маленького интервью.

Здравствуйте Хайд и КАЗ. Благодарим вас за то, что согласились встретиться с нами для этого интервью. Прежде чем мы начнем, не могли бы вы снова кратко представиться.

Хайд: КАЗ и я музыканты с довольно долгой карьерой. Вот уже прошло восемь лет как мы встретились, и 5 лет с момента формирования ВАМПС.

После вашего первого концерта во 2010 году вы наконец вернулись во Францию как члены ВАМПС. Какое у вас настроение?

Хайд: Для ВАМПС это уже второй приезд во Францию, и в то же время наш приезд приурочен к выходу нашего нового альбома, первого, который выходит в разных странах. Это наша мечта, одна из, которую удалось воплотить, и эти концерты, в том числе концерт в Париже, метка начала нашей международной карьеры.

Касательно этого альбома, в нем собраны лучшие песни, которые были перезаписаны. Почему вы остановились на переработке старых песен, а не
на выпуске новых?

Хайд: Этот альбом вышел как презентация группы для целого мира, чтобы люди, которые еще нас не знают, могли лучше понять нашу музыку, лучше понять нашу вселенную. Для нас это лучший способ показать настоящих ВАМПС. Для людей, которые нас уже долго знают, это не будет альбомом с большим количеством новинок, но для тех, кто еще не открыл нас он может быть сильным альбомом, в нем собраны наши самые лакомые кусочки.

С помощью этого альбома лучшего вы хотите вывести ВАМПС на международный уровень. Есть ли какие либо артисты с которыми вы хотели бы
сотрудничать?

КАЗ: На самом деле нет никаких конкретных артистов, с которыми мы хотели бы сотрудничать. Но при этом мы хотели бы выступить на крупных международных фестивалях, чтобы там найти новую аудиторию. А также посетить страны, которые нам пока незнакомы.

Есть ли какие то конкретные страны, где вы хотели бы выступить?

Хайд: Россия. А еще я бы хотел побывать в Италии, я там никогда не был.

Вернемся к первым концертам ВАМПС за рубежом. Какие воспоминания у вас остались. Каковы были ваши впечатления от обстановки и публики?
Отличаются ли они от ваших впечатлений о концертах в Японии?

Хайд: Что касается концертов в Японии и за рубежом, мы любим и те и другие, несмотря на разницу. Японцы очень застенчивы и едва двигаются , в
отличие от иностранцев. Что просто поражает, так это свобода иностранной публики в самовыражении, реакции часто отличаются, в зависимости от того, как вы играете.

Что вам нравится больше всего, когда приезжаете в Европу?

Хайд: Я очень люблю церкви. Архитектура очень впечатляет и вдохновляет духовно, создается впечатление чистоты, очищения.

Напротив, чего японского вам не хватает, когда вы отправляетесь в турне?

КАЗ: В Японии большой выбор еды, в том числе кулинария разных стран. Когда мы находимся за границей, мы не знаем особенности местных блюд и соответственно у нас меньше выбор. Мы едим почти все время одно и то же, каждый день.

Мир VAMPS очень близок к вампирам. Почему вы решили связать вампиров и мир вашей музыки?

Хайд: Правда в том, что ... я вампир! (смех) А также, я думаю что вы, наверное, уже видели достаточно "человеческих" концертов, так что стоит
предложить что-то новенькое.

Кстати, вы подготовили что-то особенное к вашему завтрашнему концерту? Есть ли какой-то маленький сюрприз, о котором вы можете рассказать заранее?

Хайд: КАЗ съест сырую змею! Вот так! (смех) Нам не терпится это увидеть! (смех)

КАЗ: На самом деле, я завтра не приду на концерт... (смех) Мне очень жаль!

Хайд, вы создали группу HALLOWEEN JUNKY ORCHESTRA, вместе со многими артистами японской музыкальной сцены. Как вам пришла в голову идея затеять такой проект? Что для вас Хэллоуин?

Хайд: Хэллоуин, очевидно, уже давно существует в Японии. Однако, практически не бывает концертов в честь этого праздника, ни песен на эту
тему. Поэтому мне пришла в голову идея организовать такой проект и написать песни, чтобы петь на Хэллоуин.

После этого тура, какие следующие проекты VAMPS?

Хайд: В конце года мы поедем в США, чтобы закончить наш тур. После чего мы надеемся смочь снова приехать в Париж со следующим новым альбомом.

Спасибо за ваши ответы. В заключение, не могли бы вы что-нибудь сказать для ваших французских фанатов?

Хайд: Мы действительно очень довольны, что снова приехали во Францию, потому
что французская публика не имеет никаких предрассудков насчет японской
культуры и обладает большим любопытством. Это нам очень приятно, это немного как будто мы приезжаем домой, сюда в Париж. Спасибо вам.

Trois ans après son premier concert Parisien, VAMPS, formé de deux artistes qu'il n'est plus utile de vous présenter, Hyde et K.A.Z, frôlait à nouveau le sol français dans le cadre de sa nouvelle tournée mondiale et aussi pour promouvoir son nouvel album best of, SEX BLOOD ROCK'N'ROLL sorti cet automne. La veille de son concert à l'Olympia, le duo recevait Parasite Scene pour une petite interview.


Bonjour Hyde et K.A.Z. Merci de nous recevoir pour cette interview. Avant de débuter, pouvez-vous refaire une rapide présentation ?
Hyde : K.A.Z et moi-même sommes deux musiciens qui avons une assez longue carrière. Nous nous sommes rencontrés il y a huit ans et avons formé VAMPS il y a cinq ans.

En tant que membre de VAMPS, vous revenez enfin en France après votre premier concert en 2010. Dans quel état d'esprit vous trouvez-vous ?
Hyde : En tant que VAMPS, c'est la deuxième fois que nous venons en France, cependant nous revenons aussi pour la sortie de notre nouvel album, qui est le premier à être disponible à l'international. C'est un de nos rêves qui a pu se réaliser et ces concerts, dont ce concert à Paris, marquent le début de notre carrière internationale.

Concernant cet album, il s'agit donc d'un best-of réunissant vos meilleurs titres qui ont été réenregistrés. Pourquoi avoir fait le choix de réarranger vos chansons plutôt que d'en produire des nouvelles ?
Hyde : Cet album est comme une présentation du groupe au monde entier, pour que les personnes qui ne nous connaissent pas encore puissent mieux comprendre notre musique et mieux cerner notre univers. Pour nous, c'était la meilleure façon de montrer la véritable image de VAMPS.
Pour les gens qui nous connaissent depuis très longtemps, ce n'est pas un album avec beaucoup de nouveautés, mais pour ceux qui ne nous découvrent, ce peut être un album puissant, il réunit nos meilleurs morceaux.

Avec ce best-of, vous avez donc comme idée d'exporter la musique de VAMPS à l'échelle internationale. Y a-t-il des artistes internationaux avec lesquels vous souhaiteriez collaborer à l'occasion ?
K.A.Z : Il n'y a pas vraiment d'artistes en particulier avec lesquels nous souhaiterions collaborer. Cependant, nous aimerions nous produire à de grands festivals internationaux afin d'y rencontrer un nouveau public. Et également nous rendre dans des pays que nous ne connaissons pas.

Avez-vous des pays en particulier dans lesquels vous aimeriez vous produire ?
Hyde : La Russie. Et j'aimerai me rendre en Italie aussi, je n'y suis jamais allé.

Revenons sur vos premiers concerts à l'étranger en tant que VAMPS. Quels souvenirs gardez-vous ? Quelles ont été vos impressions sur l'ambiance et le public ? Était-ce différent de vos concerts au Japon ?
Hyde : Que ce soit les concerts au Japon ou à l'étranger, nous aimons autant l'un que l'autre, malgré les différences. Les japonais sont en général assez timides et bougent difficilement par rapport aux étrangers. Ce qui est assez frappant, c'est cette liberté du public étranger dans la façon de s'exprimer, les réactions sont souvent différentes selon la façon dont on joue.

Quelles sont les choses que vous appréciez le plus lorsque vous venez en Europe ?
Hyde : J'aime beaucoup les églises. L'architecture y est impressionnante et spirituellement parlant. C'est assez épuré.

A l’inverse, qu’est-ce qui vous manque le plus lorsque vous partez en tournée hors du Japon ?
K.A.Z : Au Japon, il y a vraiment beaucoup de choix de spécialités culinaires, venant de nombreux pays. Quand nous sommes à l'étranger, nous ne connaissons pas vraiment les spécialités locales et nous avons moins de choix. Nous mangeons un peu toujours la même chose tous les jours.

L'univers de VAMPS se rapproche beaucoup des vampires. Pourquoi avoir choisi de lier les vampires à votre univers musical ?
Hyde : La vérité est que... je suis un vampire ! (rires) Et puis je pense que vous avez peut-être assez vu de concerts "humains" donc autant vous proposer quelque chose de nouveau.

Justement, avez-vous prévu quelque chose de spécial pour votre concert de demain ? Avez-vous une petite surprise à partager en avant-première ?
Hyde : K.A.Z va manger un serpent cru ! Comme ça ! (rires)
On a hâte de voir ça ! (rires)
K.A.Z : En fait, je ne vais pas venir au concert demain... (rires) Désolé !

Hyde, vous avez crée le groupe HALLOWEEN JUNKY ORCHESTRA avec de nombreux artistes de la scène musicale japonaise. Comment vous est venu l'idée de vous lancer dans ce projet ? Que vous évoque Halloween ?
Hyde : Halloween existe évidemment depuis longtemps au Japon. Cependant il n'y a pas vraiment de lives à l'occasion de cette fête, ni de morceaux tournés vers ce thème. C'est de là que m'est venu l'idée de monter ce projet et de composer des morceaux pour les chanter à l'occasion d'Halloween.

Après cette tournée, quels seront les projets de VAMPS ?
Hyde : A la fin de l'année, nous partirons aux Etats-Unis pour terminer notre tournée. Après quoi nous espérons pouvoir revenir à Paris avec un nouvel album prochainement.

Merci pour vos réponses. Pour terminer, pouvez-vous laisser un petit message à vos fans français ?
Hyde : Nous sommes vraiment contents de revenir en France, car le public français n'a aucun préjugé pour la culture japonaise et est assez curieux. C'est un plaisir pour nous et c'est un peu comme si nous revenions à la maison, ici à Paris. On vous remercie.
