North America tour of 2009, and World tour of 2010,
even looking back at the past activities,
we were able to feel more than enough.
The concept of VAMPS is that of
"the band with a view to the world" ,
which Hyde has set up from the early days.

to release the album "SEX BLOOD ROCK N' ROLL" releasing in the U.K., U.S.A. ,
and all the countries of the world,
it is the pride I bet as artist.. Hyde...
No,this work is not an exaggeration to say betting his life,
and that will goes beyond the sea,
and will open the curtain of the great history of VAMPS.


He said "I bet my pride."
"Until now",there was not this situation,
but pride became the energy to resolve this situation,
it was said,
That fruits of suffering and sticking to... is an album,
"SEX BLOOD ROCK N' ROLL" that is released in the world.
The pride of Hyde goes to the world with the most high quality work
in the history of VAMPS to date...



"VAMPS LIVE 2013 BEAST PARTY" of the other day was excited.

Hyde: I guess it is a feeling that is well on track.
But it was better if just added one more day this year.
I thought four days were a lot that it took for that last year.
Then we had it for two days this time.
But after we did, we thought we wanted to do it one more day.


And it was the best album in Japan, also which became the first album abroad,
"SEX BLOOD ROCK N' ROLL" was released.
Since when did you have the idea?

H: There was the idea that I wanted to release the best album
which also as the overseas first album, for two or three years.
Our work had not released by the proper distribution channel abroad.
But, I thought that if it would be released,
I wanted to do it in the smart ways.
So when I thought that what the highest-powered thing was,
I want to compete with the world in the good songs purely chosen.
The concept of VAMPS was to create a work like-class overseas originally,
So it was the natural course to have become this form.

How did you decide the collecting songs?

H: It was really at a loss which to choose.
At first I almost chose songs based on
" I want to do this on live at least." while leaving few blanks.
Then I asked K.A.Z ,
"How do you think this one? "
Also K.A.Z has that "I want to put this song in it."
and I convinced to accepted it.
Songs were decided with such feeling.

Which songs did K.A.Z want to put in?

H: "Life on Mars?" and "My first last"
He said that he wanted to put these two songs strategically.
I also understood the meaning of strategic very well.
Because there is a very aggressive effect in the cover song abroad,
I thought that there might be many people who arrived at VAMPS in covers.
Because "Life on Mars?" had high evaluation in them of us, I thought it was good.
According to K.A.Z , "My FIRST LAST" makes him feel Asia,
he said that he wanted to put such taste on it.
I was considering others for a long time after that.
I am not a little concious of Japanese hit chart about the single.
But I left out the wicked thought and chose them in a standard called music good abroad.
I thought that I would like to compete with the world by selected songs purely.

In the "standard" that you just said,
was there the feeling to try to eliminate Japanese way of things?

H: I think that there are two ways of thinking.
One of them is the way of going to show the taste of Japan,
another is aiming for the world standard.
But I think VAMPS want to be the latter.
For example, I think that I want to give to the world a cool album
that is placed by the side of NIRVANA.
This is really my own sence of beauty.
If there is this kind of album, I am going to buy VAMPS instead of NIRVANA, like that.
I wanted to compete a head match in such level.

I see, it was shocking to me that both "REVOLUTION" and "HUNTING"
are contained if it says by song selection, and it was the aggressive impression.

H: In an objective viewpoint,
I think the good point of VAMPS is aiming at the global quality.
But it is not only this.
I think interesting point of VAMPS is also the show like a rollercoaster.
It being rock music, but also containing everything, like that.
I think it is good that also expressing interesting part of the music.
These two songs symbolizes exactly that.
To be frank, it is not necessary to put "HUNTING" in it if common.(laughs)
Actually K.A.Z was an atmosphere like "You don't need to put it in."(laughs)
But it may be said that it is my belief,
I thought that it is not good to take it out.

"HUNTING" and "REVOLUTION” , both of them come with Ⅱ,
What is the process that became this title?

H: While making this album, there was a time when K.A.Z-kun and I
were interested in ramming down.(Degital mixing)
"How about do we do remix?
that plan came to my mind just at that time. and if we do,
these two songs would be better than others.
It was such a process.
For example, as for the song called "Rio" of Duran Duran, re-mix is cooler.
I had the feeling that I hope it become interesting with such sence.
When it was useless, I intended to put it back.
So, there are another versions of these two songs that only vocal changed.

So, I would like to ask you about the lyrics.
When you made the part of a Japanese text an English text,
there might be a lot important points..
I listened to the album and felt so it.

H: There're various forms.
Meaning is important, and it is also important whether it get on the melody.
I considerably took time for it with the person who translated it.
When I recorded a song, there was always a person who was a native English speaker
and gave me directions.
I talked with the person and changed the lyrics in the middle of recording.
Lyrics were changed until the very end.
I can say I have taken all possible measures in it.
I had a strong feeling that I wanted him to express well
in English from Japanese parts that I told.
I made it easy to be carried on the melody with the nuances of words together
while matching a meaning.
I really took time for such a work.

Depending on songs, some parts of assignment of the music score
were greatly different from the original.

H That is..a really difficult point.
(This time,)The assignment of the music score,
and also singing style is different than before.
It's difficult thing for a Japanese,but if I would not to do it,
overseas person(English native person)seems to hear very strange.
For example, if there is a part which the end of a word goes up, or falls, for a melody,
Then there may not be just usable.
Because it seems to feel unpleasant when they listen to.
Then I got back to basics, and fixed it or moved it.
The fan may feel unpleasant the song( that it is re-recorded)
different from the song that an ear is familiar with so far.
But I was more practical while thinking that I'm sorry a little this time,
and I did it seriously for the work which was not ashamed even if it is released anywhere.

What I was most surprised at personally was "Angel trip".

H: The part of "Even through troubles show your smile"
fits into English though it is the same as the Japanese melody.

I thought that I wondered how much words did you choose for.

H: I really think that is put on well.
According to a foreigner, the word of "smile" seems to be too cute.
However, it got excited there in Japan,
So I wanted to arrange it(by the same word).
Might be cute expression as a rock band,
but I thought that it's better to get excited by that way absolutely,
so I did not change my opinion.
Well, I like it by myself(laughs).

Did you make all songs like that?

H: That's right.
It was an unreasonable hard work,
So I was almost crying.
It might be the recording that was the hardest in my life.
I had been singing all the time more than another one month.
All the time also while practicing English.
Since I had never sang in a row every day like this,
so once my throat was broken,
and also schedule messed up.
If it compare, it was hard to sing when I made "DUNE" ,
but I was singing while writing the lyrics every night without sleep at that time.
And, because it was the first recording, so I do not get used it.
But this time,
it was tough even though I am veteran.(laughs)
My heart seemed to be almost broken.
There were many times is such a moment.
But after all I wanted to completely do it and continued singing all I wanted.
I have done singing 3 or 4 times usually.
But I wonder sang a dozens of times in a day.
I surprisingly sang.

Now what do you think the reason that you got over the moment
when the heart was almost broken for many times?

H: I can say that it is my pride after all.
I think fans will be glad for the new album and will want to hear a new song.
But this time is that, please wait as the intention of VAMPS.
So I cannot make an excuse when I do not release the perfect one here
which also can have confidence in myself.
When it cannot be said that I am confident, it becomes all meaningless.
Then I thought that I had to sing anxious parts again even if it was painful.

Do you think that it is for what kind of bread in your music life of future
for the days of the production of ”SEX BLOOD ROCK N' ROLL”.

H: That's enough! (LOL)

Hahahaha(laugh)
You can't do it? Or don't want to do it anymore?

H: I can't do it anymore(laugh)
And I don't want to do the same thing.
But well, probably even if the next does not have a hard time so much like this ,
I think that I could record songs at the same level.
So if I do (the same thing) next,
it may be for L'Arc~en~Ciel.
If L'Arc would release an album in the same concept, I think I may do my best once again.

There is also the overseas tour from now on ,
please tell us your enthusiasm at the end.

H: We are ready for that we really want to.
Grade of the band has been higher than before,
so now it has become VAMPS that I really want to show to everyone overseas.
Just do launch an attack !
