читать дальшеCalling all Bloodsuckers in the U.K - ARE YOU READY FOR VAMPS??? We caught up with VAMPS before their long awaited first UK show on Monday, so read on to hear their views on London as well as their new album SEX BLOOD ROCK N' ROLL!!!

Q: London is known as the 'holy ground' for rock music. How do you feel about playing in this city?
HYDE: I’m wondering if people will really come…(laughs)
K.A.Z: We’ve always listened to UK and US rock music, and I think the UK is really the musical center, so I’m looking forward to it.
Q: What’s the main attraction of London?
H: Hmm…I wonder?
K: Again, it’s a city that’s at the centre of music and art. I’m very fond of the city and I find it very stimulating.
H: Visually, it’s a city that’s very closely linked to rock music. The images that symbolize London, for example the double decker buses, or the guards, or the Union Jack flag, they all represent rock and have featured on various album covers over the years. That’s very rare and it’s difficult to find in any other country. It feels like the country has a close link to rock music. I’m jealous. We couldn’t do that in Japan! In Japan it’s a bit strange if you’re too patriotic – in the UK they even have Union Jack cars!
Q: Can you tell us a story from any previous visits to London?
K: I was once staying with a friend near Hyde Park, and we started shooting fireworks out of the window (laughs) . I have no idea why, maybe we were a bit excited? It was my first time in London so I think I got a bit carried away…
H: I was staying in London often around the year 2000, and at that time they’d just started shooting the Harry Potter movies. So London was full of excitement about the movies, and there were lots of merchandise and toys everywhere. But at that time it hadn’t quite caught on in Japan yet, so it was great to buy toys in London and then give it to my friends in japan. I was very proud!
Q: About “TROUBLE”, why did you cover this song in particular?
H: It’s a very famous song in Japan. Japanese people aren’t usually able to sing English songs, but I thought that everyone would know Shampoo’s TROUBLE. That was the only reason why I picked it, but it’s now become a favourite in our lives. We’re really grateful for Shampoo now!
Q: How do you want your UK fans to prepare for the show?
K: It’ll be exciting to see people in different types of fashion.
Q: VAMPS’ music has clear influences from 80s UK rock, new romantic music and heavy rock such as Mötley Crüe, and glam rock such as T-Bolan. How did you feel when you were listening to these types of music at the time?
H: I was very fond of them. At the time, music clips had just started to become popular, but it was very difficult to actually watch them because back in those days there was no internet like now. So I’d stay up late, or go to a café, just to try and catch a glimpse of these music clips. I really wanted to watch them but it was such a struggle! But when I finally did see them, they were so cool. Like Duran Duran, or Culture Club – and it’d make me so proud to say to my friends the next morning – “I saw their music clips last night!”.
K: It was difficult to buy records at the time because we were still at school, so TV was the main source for listening to music. So if there was a channel that was showing a UK or US music special, I’d watch them endlessly.
Q: You have said in interviews that you want to pursue your musical activities overseas, just as you do in Japan. Have you ever considered moving your base to another country?
H: Yes. If everything was prepared I’m definitely motivated enough to go overseas…… but then I’d be sad to leave Japan. Where would I want to live…? Probably Hawaii (laughs)?? I guess if I considered work it’d have to be Los Angeles.
K: I actually thought about it a lot when I’d started playing in a band – to the extent that I was researching how to apply for visas! I was always amazed at how musically stimulating overseas countries were – like how you could be drinking in a bar, and then that would lead to a jam session in the garage straight after! That’s how bands start. It would never happen in Japan, so I always longed for musical situations like that.
Q: If you were going to shoot a full-length promotion video or a short movie, what would you do?
H: I’d never thought of anything like that – maybe for Halloween?
Q: If you had as much money as you wanted to create a massive scale live stage, what would you do?
H: If I say something the Rolling Stones will do it before us, so I don’t want to say!
K: I saw Madonna’s live recently and that was cool – a grade-up version of something like that, just VAMPS-style!

Q: You said that the tracks for SEX BLOOD ROCK N’ ROLL were chosen because they are the best played live. Please tell us about some of the tracks from the record.
DEVIL SIDE
H: DEVIL SIDE is filled with the most attractive elements of VAMPS. The lyrics are about lives too – There’s some rather sexual expressions, but it basically means that if you don’t show all of what you’ve got, you can’t feel the music. Releasing your soul, more like. If you’re embarrassed or shy, you can’t move to the music as you want. Which means that you can’t feel the music. So I want people to relax and show us their true colours.
REDRUM
H: It’s a really cool track.
K: It’s very aggressive and almost violent. It’s a naughty track.
REVOLUTION II
H: I thought it’d be an interesting song to re-mix. The addition of all the new sounds have made it even more glamorous. It’s great played live, so I wonder how the UK audience will respond to it.
THE PAST
K: I think there’s a real UK feel to this track. It’s not a violent track, it’s more euphoric and it’s as if the music flows through the body. It’s one of those songs that I really want people to listen to.
LOVE ADDICT
H: It’s our first single so it represents VAMPS. There’s a lot of audience reaction and it’s a live favourite.
ANGEL TRIP
K: It’s a party tune. It’s very expressive and the audience really feel that too.
MEMORIES
K: It’s like you’re looking through an old album full of memories. Even when we perform it, I can still feel the images of nostalgia in my head. It’s nice.

H: The lyrics are about the band. Live is our sex, blood is alcohol, and we’re always making noise – the title describes what a band does.
SEX BLOOD ROCK N’ ROLL (REMIX)
H: We were going to use it for our album, but because it was so drastically different we couldn’t use it – but we wanted to use it somehow so we made it digitally available.
K: It has a really decadent, almost desolate feel – it has an industrial feel and I really like it. It’s almost like Nine Inch Nails.
